No matter her age, your Siberian Husky is a ball of pure energy.

I’m sure she loves the outdoors and regularly joins you on hikes, walks, and camping trips.

If she wants to, she can probably also be a bit mischievous and independent, and probably likes to wander off occasionally.

Regardless, I’m sure she’s won over your heart and you’re constantly wondering about her health.

That’s probably why you’ve heard about CBD.

And the good news: CBD can help you stop worrying about various health issues.

In this article, I want to give a good overview of CBD and how it can play a role in keeping your Husky healthy and happy.

The Powerful and Energetic Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky is an ancient working dog.

They were first encountered by the Russians in the 18th century, but it is believed that these work dogs were used by ancient Siberian tribes as far back as the 1500s.

In the 20th century, Huskies were exported to Alaska during the American Gold Rush.

Here they were used exclusively as sled dogs, and it’s not hard to see why:

The Siberian Husky is an intelligent, muscular, and athletic dog purposely bred for hard work in cold, harsh conditions.

Today, Huskies are still used as work dogs in various parts of the world and are treasured as family pets.

While they are visually stunning dogs, Huskies need plenty of exercise and early socialization and training.

Common Health Problems Affecting Siberian Huskies

Huskies are commonly regarded as healthy dogs, and are not particularly prone to any specific diseases.

Nonetheless, they may still suffer from various issues.

Check to see if your dog is experiencing something off this list:

• Allergies: In Huskies, allergies can cause constant itching and irritation. As a result of constantly scratching, biting, or licking at itching areas, your Husky may also deal with skin irritation such as redness, infection, and inflammation.
• Cancer: Cancer can affect all dog breeds, and Huskies are no exception. Some common kinds of cancer affecting dogs include lymphoma, mast cell tumors, lipomas, mammary gland tumors, and thyroid cancer.
• Dermatitis and Skin Conditions: Huskies are known to deal with skin conditions. They may commonly deal with dermatitis, which can sometimes be linked to a zinc-deficiency. Lupus also sometimes affects Huskies, causing joint pain, fatigue, and other symptoms.
• Eye Issues: Huskies are known to have a variety of eye-related problems, including cataracts, corneal dystrophy, and progressive retinal atrophy (or PRA). Both cataracts and PRA can lead to complete blindness and need to be detected early.
• Hip and Elbow Dysplasia: Dysplasias of the hips and elbows are common orthopedic issues for all kinds of dogs. And while Huskies seem to be less prone to these conditions than other breeds, it’s not impossible for a Husky to deal with a dysplasia. Luckily, these are genetic conditions and your breeder should be able to tell you whether your dog has them.
• Hyperthyroidism: An overactive thyroid can be very problematic as it speeds up a variety of metabolic processes. While hyperthyroidism is a rare condition, it can affect some Huskies and can put them at risk of later developing thyroid cancer.
• Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease: VKH Disease is an extremely rare condition. It is an autoimmune disease and is caused by the immune system attacking healthy melanocytes (a type of skin cell). This causes inflammation around the eyes, as well as pigmentation of the skin. If left untreated, VKH can cause pain and may lead to blindness.

How Can CBD Help My Husky?

If you’re looking for ways to keep your Siberian Husky as healthy as possible, chances are you’ve heard about CBD.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is natural, safe, and has gotten a lot of attention for its many different health benefits and possible medicinal uses, both for humans and other animals.

Below I’m going to explain how CBD may help to help treat cancer and dermatitis, 2 conditions which, as we saw, are common among Huskies.

And don’t worry:

This stuff won’t get your pup “high.”

How Can CBD Help Your Husky With Cancer?

A few years ago, our dog got sick.

The minute our vet told me our Golden Retriever had cancer I was in a bad place.

Knowing there was no way to stop the natural progression of the disease, I was focused on just one thing:

Making Rosie’s last few years as comfortable as possible.

So, I began researching all kinds of treatments, home remedies, and more.

It wasn’t long until I heard about CBD and, like most other pet owners, I was immediately skeptical about giving my dog cannabis.

But once I began researching CBD, where it comes from, and how it works, I got more and more convinced.

After all, there is some solid evidence surrounding cannabis and its ability to improve some of the symptoms of cancer.

CBD is a known antiemetic, meaning it can quickly relieve nausea and vomiting, both of which can be common side effects of chemotherapy.

Plus, CBD is a natural painkiller, meaning it can also help relieve the pain caused by some cancers (especially in their final stages).

So, I decided to give CBD a try with Rosie.

Using a variety of CBD products (mainly oils, capsules, and CBD treats), Rosie's health improved a lot.

As her condition advanced, she suffered from a lot of pain and became ever more lethargic and fatigued.

But her condition improved almost immediately after starting with CBD.

Using just a small dose of CBD a few times per day, Rosie became more active, energetic, and just seemed like a much happier dog.

She also experienced notably less pain.

Plus, CBD also helped her regain her appetite and energy levels, which in turn helped her manage a healthy weight.

As I began further researching CBD, I also learned that it may help fight the actual growth and spread of cancer.

Now, before I go on, keep in mind that these findings are based on preliminary trials, and aren’t enough to warrant calling CBD a cancer cure.

At least, not yet.

Nonetheless, the results are very promising.

Once tumors get to a certain size, they begin to create their own blood vessels in order to direct the necessary amount of blood to the tumor site.

This process is known as “angiogenesis.”

Studies from a variety of researchers have shown that CBD and other cannabinoids may help hinder this process, therefore slowing or possibly even reversing the growth/ spread of a tumor.

Other findings so signs that CBD can make cancer cells more vulnerable to chemotherapy drugs, as well as induce natural cell death more quickly in growing tumors.

Remember, these are all preliminary findings, and a lot more research is needed before we can safely say whether CBD is really an anticancer treatment.

CBD for Huskies With Dermatitis and Skin Conditions

Dermatitis is a very common skin condition, and can affect all kinds of dogs.

It usually causes rashes, as well as excessive itching, leaving your dog constantly scratching, biting, and licking at their skin, only causing further irritation.

It also causes skin inflammation, watery eyes, and a variety of other symptoms.

The most common type of dermatitis affecting dogs is called atopic dermatitis and usually strikes when your dog comes in contact with grass, mold spores, house dust mites, and other environmental allergens.

Other common causes of skin irritation and rashes include:

• Contact or food allergies
• Mites and fleas
• Ringworm
• Bacterial infections
• Yeast infections
• Autoimmune disorders (which cause the body to attack healthy cells)

If your Husky deals with any of these conditions, I highly recommend using CBD to control any rashes or skin inflammation they might be dealing with.

As I was researching CBD, I learned that the system which mediates its effects (known as the endocannabinoid system) controls a lot of other stuff in your dog's body.

One of those things is inflammation.

In fact, CBD is such a powerful anti inflammatory that it’s become a popular natural treatment for all kinds of inflammatory diseases, including allergies, osteoarthritis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Coeliac Disease, and many more.

The most common way to administer CBD is orally, via a small oil dropper.

The best way to apply CBD for skin related condition like dermatitis, however, is using a topical solution.
