Your cat is the queen of the castle.
I’m sure she’s spoiled rotten, loves to play, and brightens up any regular night at home with her antics.
And since she’s so dear to your heart, I’m sure you constantly worry about her health.
You’ve probably heard all about CBD pet supplements and how effective they can be, but chances are you’re still a bit unsure about using these products with your precious lady.
So here’s some amazing news:
CBD can help improve your cat’s health and potentially prevent a wide variety of conditions that might affect her later in life.
I want to share all my research on CBD for cats and recommend some products you can safely and reliably try with your kitten today.
Why Should You Give Your Cat CBD?
Chances are you’ve already heard a bit about CBD, or cannabidiol.
Everyone is talking about this tiny molecule derived from cannabis and hemp plants because of its plethora of health benefits.
The World Health Organization, for example, has concluded that CBD can be beneficial in treating:
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Huntington’s disease
- Inflammatory diseases
CBD goes into the body and interacts with the endocannabinoid system (also known as ECS).
This system is involved in managing all kinds of physiological processes, including everything from memory and fear to inflammation and pain.
Hence, by activating the ECS, CBD can have really broad effects on the body.
For example, studies show that by activating the endocannabinoid system, CBD can help reduce inflammation in various sites around the body.
Other research also shows that CBD can temporarily increase serotonin levels in the brain and thereby reduce the symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety.
Most of the studies on CBD have been conducted using lab animals or in vitro models, while some clinical trials have also tested the effects of CBD on human patients.
Nonetheless, the results of these studies are impressive.
But there’s a chance you might be thinking:
“That all sounds great, but how can I be sure that CBD will benefit my cat the same way it does humans?”
Well, turns out your cat responds to CBD much in the same way as humans do because she has the same endocannabinoid system.
In fact, all mammals have an endocannabinoid system, which is why CBD is often tested on animals like rats and mice.
The only thing that will change when giving your pet cannabis is the dose, seeing as their smaller bodies need much smaller doses of CBD than the body of a human.
I’ve covered this in more detail on my CBD dosage page.
Another question probably lingering in your mind is this:
“Will CBD get my cat “high?””
Well, the answer is no.
While CBD is derived from cannabis and hemp plants, it doesn’t produce the psychedelic effects we often associate with a cannabis “buzz.”
The compound which produces these effects is known as THC and is often considered the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.
And while CBD can be alerting and/or calming, it won’t inebriate your pet like cannabis or THC would.
Again, I’ve covered this topic in more detail on my CBD safety page.
What Cat Symptoms and Ailments Can CBD Help With?
As I mentioned, CBD has a wide variety of benefits.
It can help with some of the following cat health problems:
- Chronic pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Reduced appetite

How Do You Give Your Cat CBD?
You can give your pet CBD in a number of ways.
One of the most effective methods for administering CBD is through a CBD oil like that from Canna-Pet, which I’ll explore in more detail below.
These oils contain complete hemp extract with varying concentrations of CBD.
They are pretty simple to dose, as they come with a dropper which easily lets you measure out the amount of CBD you wish to give your pet.
Once you’ve got the right dosage, it’s best to apply the oil directly under your pet’s lip or tongue.
The oil will be absorb directly through the mucus membranes in the mouth, allowing it to take action and relieve symptoms faster.
Unfortunately, applying CBD oil under your cat’s tongue can be difficult, seeing as cats tend to put up much more of a fight than dogs when it comes to being force-fed medication.
Alternatively, you can add the CBD oil to your cat’s food or water, just beware that the oil will have to pass through the digestive tract which can take up to 45 minutes.
As an alternative to oil, you may also be interested in giving your cat CBD capsules.
These can easily be hidden in a snack or opened and mixed into food and make dosing super easy, seeing that each capsule contains a set amount of CBD.
Unfortunately, very few companies currently make CBD treats for cats.
How to Choose the Right CBD Product for Your Cat?
Choosing the right CBD product for your cat depends mainly on his/her symptoms.
If your kitten suffers from acute symptoms like pain or inflammation, you’ll want to use a fast acting product like CBD oil.
If, on the other hand, your cat suffers from chronic, persistent symptoms and conditions, you may want to opt for capsules or oil added to their food.
Like I mentioned earlier, any supplement that is swallowed with food will have to pass through the digestive tract before it is absorbed into the body and takes effect.
Hence, while oil or capsules added to food will take longer to kick in, they’ll also offer a slow, steady release of effects that are usually longer lasting.
This is ideal for treating chronic conditions like arthritis or pain, for example.
Also, make sure to consider how your cat responds to taking their medication.
If you’re cat won’t take the oil sublingually (under the tongue), it might be best to add the oil to their food to ensure they take it, even if it will take a little longer to take effect.
The Top CBD Brands for Cats
Now that you’re a bit more familiar with CBD, here’s a list of the best CBD products for cats.
Canna-Pet is a popular brand of CBD pet supplements.
I used these products with my dog Rosie and highly recommend Canna-Pet’s CBD capsules for cat owners.
With Rosie, I personally preferred using Canna-Pet’s CBD oil and treats, seeing as Rosie seemed to really like the flavour of the treats (CBD can sometimes have a bitter flavour that’s off-putting for pets).
However, for cats I recommend using Canna-Pet’s Small CBD capsules.
These capsules contain 170mg of hemp extract each and are super easy to administer.
You can either hide them in a treat/food, or open the capsule and mix the contents into your pet’s meals or water.
Just remember, CBD capsules take slightly longer than oil to take effect.
Nonetheless, capsules are a great way to get your cat the right dose of CBD they need without having to administer it under the tongue.
Personally, I recommend using Canna-Pet CBD products for:
- Detailed packaging and instructions on dosing, application, etc.
- Capsules, which offer precise doses and help to mask the taste of CBD.
As I mentioned earlier, I used Canna-Pet with my dog and was really impressed with the results.
2. King Kanine
King Kanine offers a wide variety of CBD products under the brand name King Kalm CBD.
They are all marketed for dogs, however the products work with all pets. You just have to follow the dosage guides for the weight of your cat.
I’ve used these products with my dog Rosie who was sick with cancer and hip dysplasia.
Within weeks of treatment, I saw huge improvements to Rosie’s mood and energy levels, and the pain and inflammation in her hip was also greatly reduced.
King Kanine is a very reputable company and is well known for its grooming products, especially the King Komb and King Clean shampoo.
Unfortunately, they currently don’t offer treats or capsules for cats specifically, and the CBD oil may be hard to administer.
Nonetheless, I always recommend these products for their:
- High-quality products.
- Great packaging with plenty of information on dosing and how to use each product.
- Great variety (oil, treats, balm, and spray) for different ailments/applications.
- Great service and customer reviews.

Are Cats Having Success With CBD?
Pet owners from all over the world are seeing results with CBD.
I've personally seen amazing results on my own dogs, but I'm not the only pet owner writing about it.
There are thousands of cat owner who have shared their success stories online, and they're very inspirational and touching.
Zoey for example, is 12 years old, and suffered a bad fall a few years ago.
When it was time to remove her cast, she was left with a bad limp and pain from arthritis. She was also put on pain killers which had bad side effects.
After just 1 month on CBD, Zoey was back to normal, and was able to relieve her pain with no side effects!
PJ is another success story.
She's an older cat and her owners said that along with her kidney disease, she started having very bad seizures.
She was prescribed medication which was expensive, and this is when her owners gave CBD a shot. After starting with CBD, she's had no more extreme seizures, and her stress levels are way down. The old PJ is back and her parents are very thankful!
Lastly we have Gideon. He was suffering from bad anxiety.
After learning about CBD, his owners gave it a shot, and were thrilled with the results.
Now when they travel, Gideon and his babysitters are no longer stressed out. He's also much less stressed when it's time to get groomed.
Zoey, PJ, and Gideon are just 3 of the hundreds of cats who are seeing success with CBD. These cats have been using CBD products from Canna-Pet. You can visit the official website here: www.Canna-Pet.com
